About Afri Exports

Our story

A Tanzanian Cardamom Exporter Built Around Single-Origin Sourcing

Afri Exports is a wholesale agricultural exporter founded in 2010 in Mtwara, Tanzania. Our cardamom programme spans the Eastern Arc highlands — we buy green pods direct from shade-garden growers, cure and grade under TBS-certified operations, lab-test every lot and ship FOB to spice buyers and importers worldwide.

Operations & sourcing

Single-origin, traceable to the highland garden

Every carton is tied to a specific Tanzanian highland origin and to a picking window inside the season. That traceability is how we hold pod colour, size and aroma consistent across repeat orders — and how we stand behind a buyer's own claims to their customers and auditors.

  • Uluguru Mountains, Morogoro — our core shade gardens and curing base
  • Usambara Mountains, Tanga — cool, high-elevation gardens for bold pods
  • Morogoro Region — organic farm clusters and lot documentation
  • Tanga Region — northern highland gardens feeding the main crop
  • Eastern Arc highlands — the ancient mountain chain that defines our origin
Quality & compliance

A documented chain, lot after lot

Quality starts in the garden — pods hand-picked at three-quarter maturity and cured gently so they hold their green skin instead of bleaching, then brought to 10–12 per cent moisture before packing. Size grading sorts the pods over screens, and an independent laboratory verifies moisture, volatile-oil content and foreign matter on every lot against the destination market's requirements.

  • TBS-certified curing, grading and packing operations
  • Gentle curing to protect green-pod colour
  • Drying to verified 10–12% moisture before packing
  • Screen grading into clean size bands, 8mm+ to 6mm
  • Moisture, volatile-oil and foreign-matter testing per lot by independent laboratory
  • TBS Certified
  • Moisture & Oil Lab-Tested
  • Single-Origin
The team

Meet the People Behind Every Shipment

A Tanzania-based team running sourcing, quality and logistics in-house — so there is one accountable partner from highland garden to destination port.

Founder

Founded Afri Exports in 2010 to connect smallholder farms in Tanzania with wholesale buyers worldwide. Bio to be added.

Joachim Mbwana

Sourcing Lead

Manages farm-gate procurement across the Uluguru foothills of Morogoro and the Usambara Mountains of Tanga. Built the origin-level traceability system that ties every cardamom lot to a defined highland garden and picking round.

Asha Ngonyani

Quality Manager

Runs the curing, size-grading and lab-testing programme — from gentle drying that protects green-pod colour, through screen grading, to per-lot moisture, volatile-oil and foreign-matter verification before every shipment.

Daniel Mahenge

Logistics Coordinator

Plans carton packing, liner choice and routing from Dar es Salaam — matching pack format to each ocean lane so the pods land dry, green and aromatic at the destination port.

Neema Kessy

Nutrition & Editorial Lead

Writes the aroma-science and culinary side of the journal, translating cardamom's essential-oil and cineole profile into claims buyers can actually stand behind. Keeps every published number sourced and checkable.
